A study of the old men of the sea has shown how out of touch modern generations are with the scale of damage man has caused to the oceans.
Scientists have speculated that each successive generation views the environment of their youth as ”natural.” This memory masks the overall extent of decline, and leads some to question historical anecdotes of the abundance of pearl oysters, tales of giant fish and seething oceans of plenty.
