Fly Fishing Techniques: Beyond the Swing

by Bishfish on June 16, 2006

The consistently excellent MidCurrent blog has two new articles on swinging a wet fly. Both articles through clear writing and good illustrations show what can be done with a wet fly. Both are recommended reading.

In “Beyond the Swing,” John Likakis talks about why he likes swinging wet flies and the simple adjustments to style that make all the difference.

As a follow-up to Phil Monahan’s “Think Outside the Swing,” it’s a round-trip ticket to methods of getting big fish — who won’t always rise to dries — to change their minds and clobber a fly.

One of the articles features a techniques that is very dear to my heart – swinging a wet fly, without casting! Back last August I did a post on “No casting, is it fly-fishing?”. Pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter.
