Fishermen let fly over the ‘yobs with blobs’

by Bishfish on June 1, 2008

UK competition fly fishers are embroiled in a fight over whether the Blob fly is sporting and fair. Seems it is much more effective at hooking fish in still-waters than traditional flies.

This article in the UK Telegraph explains all. There is a traditional fly versus blob fly video on the page.

The key point of interest to me is that the blob is fished with a quick retrieve. If you take a look at the video on the Telegraph page you will get some clues on how to fish it.

A search for ‘Blob Flies’ will get you more info than you probably want to know, but look here for some info on the Blob fly above.

Would I use Blob flies? Probably not, but I would probably put one on if I was helping a youngster or novice learn to fish. There is nothing like catching a fish or two early in the piece to whet the appetite for more learning.

(Yobs: Yobbos, ruffians, thugs)
