Have just spent the last 4 months or so being chased around by the Grim Reaper - he is a bloody tenacious bugger!
It was a sudden confrontation with the reality of my vulnerability - no more “can’t happen to me” - no more “bullet proof”. Hell, I survived two major car crashes, military service in the late 60′s, 25 years playing Rugby, there is more, lots more - but no more.
But one night, actually very early morning, I was chatting to the nurse (actually an Angel in disguise) in the ICU, about life the Universe and the whole damn thing, when she came out with “The Vultures are always circling”.
That’s bloody negative I observed, especially considering where the conversation was taking place. Not so said she. She was South African and says it is a common saying there, meaning live each day and moment as if it was your last.
I will go along with that, but thought I have been doing plenty of that up till the immediate past - but it is good to get a bit of a reminder now and then.
So read this and go fishing, keeping one eye out for the vultures.
