New Article Fishing In a Goldfish Bowl
Standout days are rare – if they were not they would not standout. A
couple of weeks ago, my lad, Ed, and I spent a magic day fishing to
smelting trout right at our feet. This story is in the December
NZ Fisherman Magazine.
Be Careful Out There!
Down in this part of the world, our summer which has just begun, and
the main holiday period around Xmas and New Year is a time when fishing
gets into full swing. It is also the time when most fishermen drown.
Be careful out there – and before you venture out have a
look at this.
I have been fishing for over forty years and I still have not come
across a fish I wanted to die for.
False Fish Identification
In last months newsletter I rattled on about the difficulties that can
be encountered with fish identification in these international days
of the internet.
Would have been nice if I had checked my own identifications as the
NZ Snapper was reclassified Chrysophris
pagrus about five years ago – silly me. Just shows how easy it is to
leave outdated information lying about on a web site and not check it.
There is a warning in there somewhere. The world wide web is becoming
just like one giant computer containing information – good and bad.
What was that old computer adage – garbage in, garbage out. These days
it seems it is too easy to leave the garbage in!
Thanks to all those, and there were many of you, who took the time
and trouble to remind me how enfeebled my memory is becoming.
New Book Selling Well
My new book‘Fishing Smarter for Trout’
is in stores now, and by all accounts is selling well. Very gratifying.
The basic premise of the book is that most anglers who have difficulty
catching trout, fish where trout are not. Trout live at any one time
in less than 10% of the water available to them. Finding that 10% is
the first and fundamental key to success.
Having the best gear, the best flies, the best casting technique, is
about as useless as an ashtray on a motorbike, if you use them where
fish are not.
Have a great Xmas and a beaut New Year.
I will try and get out another newsletter at the end of December, but
if there are fish about, and I am about the fish, there is little or
no show of that happening!!
